The number of new jobs after the opening of China for peace and the beginning of the period of reforms in the period from 1978 to 2017 increased by 375 million.
As reported by the National Statistical Office (NBS), the total number of jobs in urban and rural areas of the Middle Kingdom was 776 million people at the end of 2017. This is 93% more than in 1978. According to the report of institutions only in urban centers, the number of jobs was 425 million at the end of 2017, which is 346 percent more than in 1978.
The increase in the number of jobs was accompanied by a strong economic growth of the country. Over the past 40 years, China recorded an average annual economic growth of about 9.5 percent.
In the first half of this year, data on employment in China remained on the plus side, because, despite the escalation of international economic tension, the Chinese economy developed quite well. In the first half of 2018, 7.52 million new jobs were created in the cities, and by 170,000 more than in the same period last year.
The registered unemployment rate in the cities at the end of June was 3.83%.
